Two from School of Engineering to receive local 40 Under 40 awards

Two with ties to the UNM School of Engineering have been selected as part of the 2024 class of 40 Under 40 honorees by Albuquerque Business First.

Nicholas Ferenchak, an assistant professor in the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, is an honoree, along with Brady Key, an alumnus from the Department of Computer Science.

Ferenchak is leading the Center for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety at UNM, which is a University Transportation Center funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation focused on solutions and technology to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Key is director of software development at RS21 and was formerly a senior software engineer at Sandia National Laboratories. He earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UNM in computer science. He is also a member of the School of Engineering External Leadership Board.

The list recognizes young individuals in the community who go above and beyond in both their careers and in the communities. Nominations are sought, then a panel of judges consisting of previous 40 Under 40 winners selects the current year’s class.

The honorees will be celebrated at an event on May 31 and also will be featured in that week’s issue of Albuquerque Business First.
