UNM Students Present Cutting-Edge Research at 2018 Construction Research Congress

April 12, 2018

Ten graduate students from the Department of Civil Engineering presented their work on a range of research topics at the 2018 ASCE Construction Research Congress April 2-4, 2018, in New Orleans, LA.  The group included both Masters and PhD students from the labs of Assistant Professor, Dr. Vanessa Valentin, and AGC Endowed Chair Professor, Dr. Susan Bogus Halter. The ASCE Construction Research Congress is the premier conference for presenting research in the area of construction engineering and management. The following list illustrates the breadth of work performed by these students:

  • Su Zhang (PhD’17) – “Geospatial Technologies for Collecting Construction Material Information”
  • Elmira Kalhor (PhD’17) – “Dynamics of Homeowner Mitigation Response to Wildfire Hazard”
  • Jorge Santamaria (PhD’17) – “Optimal Construction Site Conditions for Concrete Operations”
  • Amir Jafari (PhD’18) – “Proposing A Conceptual Decision Support System For Building Energy Retrofits Considering Sustainable Triple Bottom Line Criteria”
  • Fei Han (MS’13; current PhD) – “Evaluating Construction Work Obstacles Using Resilient Short-Interval Scheduling”
  • Michele Anderson (MS’17; current PhD) – “Preserving Historical Concrete Structures with Modern Construction Methods”
  • Parya Nickbeen (MS’18) – “Tracking Student Retention using System Dynamics Modeling”
  • Kristal Metro (current PhD) – “Current Practices for Recruiting and Retaining Qualified Workers at State Transportation Agencies”
  • Claudia Garrido (current PhD) – “Assessment of Project Risks in Fast Track Construction Projects”
