CE Student Places First in Poster Session

Sumant Avasarala, a PhD student in the UNM Department of Civil Engineering, was awarded first place for an Outstanding Poster Presentation in the 1st Environmental Division Student Poster Session at the 2017 Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) annual conference and expo and the Colorado Mining Association’s (CMA) 119th National Western Mining Conference in Denver, CO.
SME promotes manufacturing technology and the development a skilled workforce while also advancing manufacturing and attracting future generations to the profession.
CMA, established in 1876 and incorporated in 1897, is a trade association whose membership is composed of both small and large enterprises engaged in the exploration for, production and refining of, metals, coal, oil shale, and industrial minerals; firms that manufacture and distribute mining and mineral processing equipment and supplies; and other institutions providing services and supplies to the mineral industry.
