3 CCEE students awarded prestigious Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship

The University of New Mexico announced that three students have been awarded the prestigious Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The awardees include Benson Long (MS Civil Engineering), Ben Garland (MA Community and Regional Planning), and Si Lwin (BS Civil Engineering).

The mission of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program is to attract the nation’s brightest minds to the field of transportation and advance transportation workforce development. UNM is the premier research and training institution in New Mexico for urban and rural transportation. We are dedicated to creating sustainable transportation systems, supporting our communities, and training the next generation of transportation professionals. The fellowships will provide funding for the students to conduct research in transportation and attend the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, D.C.

Benson Long is working with tribal communities across the U.S. to better understand their active transportation data needs through the NCHRP 07-31 research project. Ben Garland is the program manager for the Center for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety and is developing a bicycle that can measure the condition and quality of various walking/biking infrastructure. Si Lwin is examining potential changes in health outcomes after the completion of complete street projects in New Mexico using publicly available data.
