Civil engineering student Brea Jarrell awarded the Dr. Jerome W. “Jerry” Hall Memorial Scholarship
June 9, 2023
UNM civil engineering junior Brea Jarrell has been selected for the 2023-2024 Dr. Jerome W. “Jerry” Hall Memorial Scholarship supported by the New Mexico Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Undergraduate students focused on transportation in a New Mexico university or community college were eligible for the $2,000 award and Brea will be officially honored at NMITE's September meeting.
In addition to her studies, Brea has worked at Parametrix in Albuquerque for the last year, pursuing a variety of projects including an I-40 corridor rehab study, the Gibson HAWK signal, Uptown improvements, and trail studies such as the Alameda Drain Trail and Simms Park Road. Brea is spending the summer working at Parametrix's headquarters in Seattle where she is focusing on roundabout design and fish passage work (relating to altering culverts and infrastructure to reduce environmental harm to regional fish populations) for clients such as the Washington Department of Transportation. After graduation, Brea plans on working towards her PE with hopes of pursuing a career in transportation.
