PhD student Smriti Chaulagain receives ASCE scholarship
January 14, 2021

Smriti Chaulagain, a PhD student working under the supervision of Dr. Mark Stone, has received one of the ASCE NM Section’s Fall 2020 scholarships.
Her research focuses on the application of remote sensing for the characterization of river systems and understanding the dynamics between rivers and floodplains. Currently, she is working on machine learning techniques for the long-term monitoring of riparian vegetation and floodplain evolution due to climate change in the Middle Rio Grande in Albuquerque. Her career goal is to continue working on new approaches for the advanced understanding of the dynamics of rivers to bridge the gap between technology and nature.
