High School Students Introduced to Transportation Careers

Sixteen high school students from New Mexico participated in the Summer Transportation Institute (STI) hosted by the UNM School of Engineering July 16-27, 2018. The STI program is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration to encourage students to consider careers in the field of transportation. Faculty from the Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering and staff from the New Mexico Department of Transportation worked with students on transportation-related activities including building and testing balsa wood bridges, planning a future city, competing in a construction equipment productivity challenge, evaluating the use of UAVs in transportation, and visiting NMDOT headquarters.
