State MATHCOUNTS Competition Held at Centennial Engineering Center

On March 18 the State MATHCOUNTS Competition was held at UNM Centennial Engineering Center. Dr. Walter Gerstle, Professor of Civil Engineering, helped to administer the competition.
The overall champions were Desert Ridge Middle School and the top 4 students that will represent New Mexico at the National competition in May were all from Desert Ridge! Team and individual results are as follows:
Team Results:
1 – Desert Ridge Middle School, Albuquerque, NM
2 – Los Alamos Middle School, Los Alamos, NM
3 – Jefferson Middle School, Albuquerque, NM
4 – Mountain Elementary School, Los Alamos, NM
5 – Albuquerque Academy, Albuquerque, NM
6 – Hermosa Middle School, Farmington, NM
Individual Results:
National Team
1st – Joseph Camacho, 7th Grade, Desert Ridge Middle School
2nd – James Camacho, 7th Grade, Desert Ridge Middle School
3rd – Berkan Dokmeci, 7th Grade, Desert Ridge Middle School
4th – Melody Yeh, 7th Grade, Desert Ridge Middle School
National Team Alternate
5th – May Vo, 8th, Los Alamos Middle School
The first and second place winners were the same twins from last year; however, last year they went to Eisenhower MS. This year they transferred to Desert Ridge MS.
The 4 students that made up the winning Desert Ridge MS team were (students listed left to right):

Student Melody Yeh, 7th grade competed as an individual and earned 4th place overall and earned a spot on the National Team!
