UNM Design Build Takes Top Honors

mark russellDr. Mark Russell and our Civil Engineering students have won the First Place National Award of the Design-Build Institute of America Competition that took place recently in Denver, CO. This is the top national award for design-build competitions and the UNM team (Integrated between Civil Engineering and Architecture students) won the top national award. Details about the competition and our winning team is below.

This year marks the fifth year that the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) has hosted a national level student competition.  The DBIA process is aimed at integrated design and construction processes that allow the architects, engineers, and construction managers to collaborate on facility development.  During the DBIA National Student Competition, 31 teams responded to an initial Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in which 9 teams were selected to represent their respective regions.  The next phase was a Request for Proposal (RFP) in which the teams prepared preliminary designs, budgets, and schedules. The University of New Mexico along with the University of Washington and the University of Colorado, Boulder, were selected as the finalists.  At the DBIA National Conference in Denver on November 3, the finalists presented their designs to a panel of 8 judges.   The UNM team made up of students from Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Construction Management (named: JAMM Design + Build) took First Place at the 2015 DBIA National Conference!
