Dr. Maji Retires
October 3, 2016
Professor of Civil Engineering Arup Maji has retired from the University of New Mexico after 28 years of service. Arup was Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering from 2005 to 2009, and Interim Dean of the School of Engineering from 2009 to 2011. Now, Dr. Maji has started a new career at Sandia National Laboratories.
Dr. Maji is a well-respected professor, earning the UNM College of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award in 1994. Dr. Maji has been actively engaged in research in smart sensors and smart materials, nondestructive evaluation of structures, acoustic and optical waves, and experimental mechanics. As a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, he has been an executive committee member of the ASCE-Aerospace division, president of the ASCE New Mexico Section, and Technical Chair of several international ASCE Earth and Space conferences.
We are sad to see Dr. Maji go, but have many good memories of his service to the Department of Civil Engineering and to the University of New Mexico.
