2016 NAHB Student Chapter Residential Construction Management Competition

The UNM Department of Civil Engineering construction management Lobo Builders team competed in the 2016 Residential Construction Management Competition (RCMC) in Las Vegas, NV, January 18 to 21 through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) student chapter. It was the second year the UNM student team competed in the event, as last year’s team won the “Rookie of the Event,” inspiring this team to build on the accomplishment. The team competed with 34 four-year university programs, most of them several year veterans of the competition, and the UNM Lobo Builders team placed fifth overall with its stellar oral presentation and defense of the fall semester project submittal. The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real construction company by completing a management project/proposal. Proposals are submitted to a group of construction company executives who act as judges. During the convention, students defend their proposals to the judges in front of an audience during the annual International Builders’ Show.

This year’s team consisted of John Romansky – Project Manager, Nathan Schaffer – Marketing Manager, Chris Cavnar – Product Design, Adam Ryan – Land Development, Brennan Charley – Sustainability, Chris Archuleta – Assistant Project Manager, Arif Kahn – Alternate, and graduate student Matti Joyner – Coach, Michael Gonzalez –Faculty Mentor.
