Graduation
Commencement Ceremony
The Commencement Ceremony is the campus-wide graduation ceremony for all students from all schools, colleges, and degree programs. The President of the University of New Mexico confers degrees upon all degree candidates at this ceremony. Graduates will process across the stage to be recognized individually and will be given a diploma cover. Doctoral and terminal master's degree candidates will be hooded.
Students who are eligible to participate in Commencement are those who complete their degree requirements by the end of the current semester.
SOE Convocation Ceremony
The School of Engineering hosts its own Convocation Ceremony just for the engineering students, usually in the Kiva Auditorium which is part of the Albuquerque Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque. A convocation ceremony is a celebration hosted by an individual school, college, or department. Please refer to the SOE Convocation Schedule web site for information about the ceremony.
About a month before the date of each graduation, the Dean’s Office in the School of Engineering will forward specific information about convocation to the Senior Academic Advisor who will then forward it to all students who are approved to graduate that semester.
Signup
All degree candidates who plan to participate in the commencement ceremony and/or the SOE convocation ceremony must complete the online sign-up form. See the paragraph titled, "Sign-Up Form". There is a deadline for this sign-up; refer to the web page for the deadline date.
It is very important that you complete the sign-up form. The form instructs the university as to how you want your diploma delivered (hold for pick-up, mail to current address, or mail to an alternate address) and allows you to provide your correct mailing address. If you do not sign-up for your diploma before the deadline, then your diploma will be mailed to the mailing address on file which may or may not be your correct address.
For questions about the SOE Convocation, please contact the Senior Academic Advisor or the SOE Dean’s Office.
