Summary of Admissions Procedure and Documents
Below is a summary of the documents required for admission to our graduate programs. All application materials must be received by 5:00 pm on the day of the deadline.
Application for all graduate degree programs are done online. You can start your application here. Click on the Apply To UNM button, then Create an Account to begin.
To determine the specific application instructions for the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, on the same web page, click on the requirements and instructions link in the paragraph. You will come to a page titled, Application Guidelines by Program and Interest. Then click on the link to Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering which will direct you to contact information and a link to the department website.
You will receive a PIN and password so you can return to your work over several sessions.
For US Citizens and Permanent Residents
Included required documents are (consult online application instructions for complete information):
- $60 application fee, nonrefundable paid via credit card online when you have completed your application and are ready to submit it
- One official transcript (unopened) from EACH academic institution you have attended. You do NOT need to submit a UNM transcript if you have attended UNM
- Three letters of recommendation – can be submitted electronically through the application system.
- Letter of intent – can be uploaded into the application.
Deadlines:
- To be considered for Assistantships: January 31 (international and domestic)
- Fall Semester – July 15
- Spring Semester – November 10
- Summer Session – April 29

For International Students

Included required documents are (consult online application instructions for complete information):
- Completed international admissions application
- $70 application fee, nonrefundable paid via credit card online when you have completed your application and are ready to submit it
- Official English language proficiency results submitted directly by the testing agency to UNM: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Duolingo Engish Test, Pearson Test of English (PTE-Academic), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) or Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE).
- The ETS school code for UNM is 4845.
- Official academic transcripts and degree certificates and with official English translations, if necessary, from all post-secondary institutions attended. Transcripts must be either:
- One - Official documents – transcripts issued by the degree-granting institution and must be attested (stamped and/or signed) by the record-keeping official of the issung university. They do not have to be sealed in an envelope.
OR
- Two - Transcripts evaluated by an official credentialing agency (member of National Association of Credential Evaluation Services). Transcripts evaluated by an official agency do not need to be evaluated by UNM and may speed up processing of your application. You also do not need to send UNM the original transcript if an agency has done the evaluation. However, you will need to send a photocopy of the original transcript and an English translation directly to UNM.
- Photocopies of academic credentials that have been certified by a recognized international educational organization, such as the U.S. Educational Foundation, AMIDEAST or the Institute for International Education, will also be accepted.
- UNM Certification of Financial Responsibility and supporting documentation (required if you are not receiving full funding from the department)
- Three letters of recommendation – can be submitted electronically through the application system.
- Letter of intent – can be uploaded into the application.

Send scores to UNM:
- MSCE, MENG, and PhD applicants - official copy of GRE test scores
- MCM applicants - official copy of GRE or GMAT test scores
- Scores must be sent directly from the company administering the tests to UNM
