Scholarships

Undergraduates

The department offers approximately $70,000 in scholarships to undergraduate students. This is in addition to other scholarships available from the School of Engineering and UNM.

Our department has more funds for scholarships than any of the other engineering departments at UNM. Scholarships are available for each of our three majors: civil engineering, construction engineering, and construction management. The eligibility requirements vary among the scholarships. Some have very specific requirements; some are more general; some require that you have financial need which is determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) which is filed through the UNM Financial Aid Office.

The amount of each scholarship award may vary every year. All scholarships may not be given every year. You can check the department list for the most updated information as to the status of a scholarship. Scholarships will be announced through emails to all students in the department, postings in the Centennial Engineering Center, and information on the departmental web site.

To apply for a scholarship, you must first be admitted to the department into one of the three degree programs. If you have been admitted, then you can complete the Scholarship Application. For scholarships based on financial need, a current FAFSA must be on file with the Financial Aid Office. Some scholarships may require other documentation. You must be enrolled at least half-time:  undergraduates at least 6-8 credits

The application deadline is approximately June 1 of each year. The selection process will be done in June or July. Notification will be in July.

International Graduate Students

There is one scholarship for international students, the International Amigo Scholarship, administered by the Office of International Admissions, Global Education Office.

ALL International Graduate students will be considered for this scholarship upon admission to a UNM graduate program and with the recommendation of the department (contact the department to ask if it will nominate you).

Scholarships will be awarded with a Nomination Priority Deadline of March 15th for the Fall admission semester on a first-come, first-served basis in a departmentally representative fashion.  Once this date passes, scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first serve basis until this date passes with no department receiving more than 10 total Amigo slots.  Scholarships are limited in number.

The International Amigo Scholarship allows international students to pay in-state tuition (a value of more than $10,000 per year).

The scholarship may be renewed annually for up to two years for master’s students and four years for doctoral students, as long as the student meets the required credit hour and GPA standards.
