Graduate Student Jake Mortensen Wins Scholarship

Jake Mortensen, a MS student advised by Professor González-Pinzón, was awarded the Atlantic 10 Conference Postgraduate Scholarship this past June by the Atlantic 10 Athletic Conference. The award honors student-athletes who performed with distinction both in the classroom and in their respective sports throughout their career, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.  Mortensen was selected as one of ten Atlantic 10 student-athletes (7 women, 3 men) to receive support for postgraduate education. Mortensen completed four years of NCAA Division I athletic eligibility as a swimmer for the George Washington University in Washington, DC where he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering prior to joining the UNM Department of Civil Engineering as an M.S. student this fall. Jake is working on understanding scaling of nutrient processing along the riverbed of the Rio Grande continuum.
