Prof. Ross is a registered professional engineer with over 30 years experience in the fields of computational mechanics, hazard survivability, structural dynamics, structural safety, stochastic processes, risk assessment, and fuzzy systems. He has been awarded two prestigious J. William Fulbright Fellowships for study in Canada, 2001, and in Brazil, 2013. Dr. Ross is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. His textbook, Fuzzy Logic with Engineering Applications, is now in its 3rd Edition; it was the first textbook in the field for use in undergraduate classes. He has published 6 books, and over 150 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and holds one patent. He is the founding co-editor of the Journal Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems. Dr. Ross is the founder of the UNM ice hockey club team, and is active in civil affairs. He was the President of the UNM Faculty Senate in the academic year 2011-2012.
