Dr. Rowangould is focused on increasing the sustainability of our communities by improving the way transportation infrastructure and policy decisions are made. His research focuses on improving the models and analytical techniques used to evaluate the performance of transportation plans and policies, assess the impacts of air pollutants and greenhouse gases emissions from vehicles, and address environmental justice concerns.

Prior to joining UNM  Dr. Rowangould was a Science Fellow at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in Santa Monica, California. While at NRDC he conducted research on population exposure to air pollutant emissions from vehicles in Los Angeles and worked with residents in disadvantaged areas of the city to help them develop more sustainable transportation and land-use plans for their communities.

He teaches two courses (CE481/581 and CE491/598) that prepare students to address a wide range of contemporary transportation planning and policy challenges.
