Construction Engineering and Management Lab »
The Construction Engineering and Management Laboratory is used to provide practical exercises in construction engineering and project management, including construction process modeling, project estimating and scheduling. The room is equipped with a high-resolution projector and screen for computer presentations. The room is also equipped with 5 specially designed tables each of which contains an advanced multimedia-enabled and multi-processor computer workstation. In addition, each table is computer accessible, so that students can bring in their own laptop computers if they would prefer. Each computer can project wireless to the projection screen. In addition, the instructor podium is equipped with a computer and a document camera. The room is also wired so that the instructor can monitor students working at any of the tables through the instructor computer.
Students use this team-oriented environment for several construction engineering and management courses. For instance, students are provided sets of drawings and specifications for a specific construction project and will use these documents to develop various cost estimate components and various types of schedules for that project. In addition, students utilize the lab to meet and discuss team projects and to analyze data collected during field surveys using the advanced multimedia multi-processor workstations. Finally, a teaching assistant oversees utilization of the laboratory by students for other activities, including course homework development, research activities, or projection of construction-related movies and documentaries.
